Great meeting

On Wednesday I had a visit from Sue Leblanc our SLS Director. Her visits are always a wonderful exchange of ideas that lead to new ones.

Our discussions included how I have been learning InDesign software to help build publications. I also shared how we use presentation software like PowerPoint as “workbenches” to prototype design ideas, test multiple layouts, and warehouse images & resources for later use. At that point she recommended that I explore OneNote as perhaps an even more adaptable tool. That led us to some observations on we often teach ourselves these skills independent of traditional PD sit-down offerings; genuine inquiry learners.

We shared suggestions on how teachers might use e-book offerings within our catalog and how they might introduce inquiry-learning in either elective courses or or during post-test lulls as a way to grow comfortable with the process. We reviewed some past ACSLIB inquiry projects, recent design upgrades to our school web pages, and character-ed posters I have made for our school community.

Also, I shared cost information and plans about the studio lighting additions to our MakerSpace as well as student  use of Lego Windstorms. I emphasized how the opportunities of our MakerSpace continue to cultivate the Team-of-One concept: supporting individual student interests in discovery.

At every turn, Sue is very good at suggesting possible paths to pursue and providing encouragement. Stay tuned.
