Spent a purposeful day yesterday with my SLS colleagues visiting member libraries in Walton and Downsville with the invitation to help them critique their library space to better engage students and address the needs of their school; following up on our Spring PD with Jennifer Lagarde.
The open-mindedness and professionalism of these two librarians to have their peers scrutinize their programs and suggest modifications was an indication of their commitment to their districts and to the students they serve.
Our SLS Director also had us participate in a learning strategy to help generate, evaluate, and focus questions around our library engagement theme. The process looks promising for a number f applications; including my current work with a reticent AIS student.
Among my contributions was sharing my "what if" display as a means of brainstorming possibilities, expectations, and direction.
Taking a critical look at someone elses library layout and program is a great incentive to take a fresh look at my own; something I have started this morning. Thanks for getting the ball rolling!
