It seems to me that in the course of their high school career students should be using a wide-enough range of tech-tools to demonstrate their understanding that they will be positioned to be not only college- and career-ready, but wanting to apply those skills to the creation of their own yearbooks and memory books.
So I thought I'd give it a try.
Our school has an Adobe Indesign license. It is perfect for the purpose. I watched a few videos, googled a few speed keys, and started building two-page spreads (I am making a sports memory book for my son). I keyed the size to match one of the print options at the Lulu self-publishing (where I have had blackk & white books printed before).
This morning I uploaded a 52-page (still incomplete) PDF of my project so that I can assess the quality of the process. The 52-page full-color hard-bound book with a color cover is $21.27.
When I make my finished one, I can simply email its web address to aunts and uncles and they can buy one right away or 10 years from now.
I look forward to getting my copy this time next week.Stay tuned.
