I made this video and sent this note to my colleagues this morning:
Greetings,
I
wanted to offer an additional avenue for recognizing student
accomplishment at ACS; one that is, perhaps, more immediate, flexible,
and in the lingua franca of our students and today’s world: a digital avenue.
You
may have noticed at yesterday’s faculty meeting that I have a studio
set-up at the entrance to the library: lights, a backdrop, and a camera
on a tripod. The purpose is to provide a walk-in, sit-down,
no-tech-knowledge-required place for staff and students to have a
message recorded.
You provide the praise, I provide the production.
A
few minutes after you walk out, that video can be e-mailed to you
and/or posted to the web site (a SHOUT OUT tab?) and/or sent to WACS-TV
and/or linked to a parent email note, etc.
This
morning I recorded the following video, using just first names, and
posted it to my library page and library blog; all in just a few
minutes. By
9:30, I had shared the web site video with three of the students
mentioned in it; illustrating to them that my praise was genuine and
that their accomplishments worth sharing; an investment in motivation.
Each
school day is ripe with incidental (and sometimes amazing) student
accomplishment that have the potential to be molded into a motivational
moments by sharing it. I invite you and encourage you to give this a try; it will only take a few minutes; any few minutes.
