On looking closer

I'm not much of a Prologue or Introduction reader when it comes to fresh books. So when I returned to The Penguin Anthology of 20th Century American Poetry over the holiday recess to read poems, I was very surprised and impressed by Rita Dove's quick summary of historical movements and  contextual influences as she framed the emergence of various poets and schools of writing. I did not expect to find what I found; kind of like poetry, though.
