Using the power of the spoken word

An exhibit at the Brooklyn Historical Society features an recorded first-person accounts of Vietnam veterans. Visitors approach life-size images of these veterans and an audio recording kicks in. The result, the NY Times articles says, is "remarkably intimate."

I have two series in the library entitled "Letters from the Battlefront" and "Letters from the Homefront." They include volumes from the Revolutionary War up through the Vietnam War. I was imagining how easy and powerful it would be to have students read these letters either as voice-overs to a video collage or, in fact, as recordings/live readings behind life-size images from those wars.
