I'm always surprised at how many articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education are ,well, relevant to my work... or at least inform it in some way. The article on the status and growth of the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) is a good example.
It explains the role of the DPLA as a "connector or superaggregator" of records held by libraries, museums, historical societies, and other cultural institutions. It goes on to illustrate its strategy of networking "service hubs" and "content hubs" to deliver its unique resources.
But what really connected me to the article and and the DPLA mission was the last quote of their executive director: "The term "library" is a very expansive term, and we just need to do a better job fulfilling that."
Then I looked up "expansive" in my American Heritage 3/E and found, " disposed to be open, communicative, and generous, outgoing."
I liked that. I liked that very much.
