This 3D business is really blossoming. NASA has posted 3D models of spacecraft for download, and now Smithsonian is making a commitment to scan and share its collection as 3D models; beginning with this beta site: Smithsonian X3D.
This idea of a museum sharing its in-the-round holdings as models which students can manipulate, research and print really redefines what these institutions might become. It also opens up great opportunities for schools and communities, like ours, to consider even rudimentary efforts to interpret our own local artifacts and collections into more accessible virtual models.
Thanks for keeping me in the game, anoved.
