The approaching horizon

It may be time to look over your shoulder; at least for a moment. Log off your grade book, set aside your APPR rubric, close your Common Core tome.

The MOOCs are coming. So, what's a MOOC?

To this reporter they look like the last/latest hope for authentic learning. They are driven by that great engine of our times: technology, which runs away with opportunity and dismisses paradigms with élan.

They "fit" the tools of our time; the ephemeral wireless ones that zip through, around, and in the face of brick and mortar. Yet, there is something "old school" about the value of them.  I like the idea of their pace, their scope, their intrinsic value, their "real" badges of accomplishment.

I've started a "bundle" of sites, videos, news articles, and documents that can bring you up to speed on this teaching/learning phenomenon (NYTimes) that is closing fast.

Some will be running from it, some will pretend it is not there, others will turn to embrace it.
