Poem
I’ve always wanted to wear a watch;
from the earliest Timex
with a chromed Twist-O-Flex band
to this one on the back cover of NewScientist magazine -
a Christopher Ward C8 Flyer - with that
sturdy-simple camel-colored strap
and stars-against-midnight face,
but watches
always grate against my wrist like a shackle,
slip off-center from my slender busy arm,
and conflict with my idea of living in the moment -
no matter which one it happens to be.
