Two things

I read in the recent issue of Teaching Tolerance about an instance where some slave deeds we discovered in North Carolina and subsequently scanned and transcribed “by high school students”, and ultimately posted online by the Office of Deeds for access by scholars and the general public. I mention it because it made me feel good about our student effort in past years to scan, post, and catalog a series of local historical articles that appear in our local weekly newspaper.

Secondly, I received a copy of Rx for the Common Core: a Toolkit for Implementing Inquiry Learning from our School Library System. I was gratified and proud to read that I have been on the right track all my professional life in education. There are plenty of gaps I need to improve in my processes and advocacy, but the fundamental premise of WISE Inquiry - wonder, investigate, synthesize, and express - have been hallmarks of my program.
