An interesting article in the New York Times about the slow evolution of poetry into digital formats; mainly because of the challenge maintaining the integrity of line breaks, indentations, and spacing. “The first impression you have of a poem is looking at the shape on a
page,” Mr. [Billy]Collins said. “A poem has a sculptural integrity that is not
registered on any e-reader.”
It appears, however, that the publishing industry has turned the corner on solving the problem. Last year, e-books accounted for roughly 20 percent of the nearly 10,000
poetry books published, compared with around 10 percent in 2012.
