These are two strong videos that illustrate the use of 3D printing in industry and the use of 3D modeling in the classroom. In the first, I really like the way the designer goes back and forth between mock-ups, scanning, and printing to exploit the technology in creating their unique designs. I also like the way he describes the cost-effectiveness of the process for his limited purposes.
In the second, a scholar takes us through the magnificent recreation of Ancient Rome that he created (self-taught) with SketchUp. More importantly (at the 30 minute mark) he describes how he has implemented student SketchUp projects for his class; maintaining the integrity of research while entertaining the unique development of visualizations: the expectation of rigor balanced with creativity. Great stuff.
