Yesterday, I recorded myself reading the NYSED exemplar text, "The Long Night of the Little Boats;" this at the request of a colleague who hopes to use it as the first reading of the piece (supported context) next Fall. I recorded it with GarageBand, then placed the audio file in a shared folder for her to access. Today, I brought that file into iMovie so that I could add "chapters" at each paragraph. As a DVD, the teacher now has the option play specific paragraphs easily.
I am also working on ways to easily create classroom documents for these Close Text Readings in the format that the state has been luxuriously providing; landscape oriented pages, continuously linked passages on the left, numbered paragraphs, and either vocabulary or teacher instructions on the right. I hope to make templates that colleagues can easily "fill" and modify. Both projects are the type of behind-the-scene stage-crew-type duties that I can do to help move this enterprise along.
