An old DDD mantra: if nothing else, have students compare this to that to provoke similarities and differences: to think. Stumbled on a dandy example from 2008 comparing British counterinsurgency tactics in contemporary Iraq to the ones they used to battle "counterinsurgence" in the colonies during the American Revolution!
