Civil War / Tech Combo

This post is trying to accomplish two introductions. The first is to draw your attention to an example of the New York Times series about the Civil War entitled "Disunion." (I have an RSS feed for it in my sidebar now.)

The series example that I have linked to compares the reaction to speeches about slavery given by Bryant and Seward. What I found most interesting is that in both cases the most powerful rebuke and accolade were penned by a poet: John Greenleaf Whittier. I would gladly take a poet over a pundit.

The "tech" part of this post is that I have used a new New York Times feature in creating my link. You should find the sentence about Whittier "highlighted" when you follow my "example link.

Learn how to use "emphasis" at the Times here (Thanks for the breaking news, Jim).
