Online comprehension

Many of us have enjoyed using Readability, the bookmarklet that reformats web articles into a simple ad-less text format.

That reading convenience is also the path to better comprehension. Please read this game-changing article by Nicholas Carr about the comprehension-toll that the diversionary enticement of hyperlinks and interruption exacts on our online comprehension.

Consequently, Readability includes a new function; the option to have all links appear as numbered footnotes at the bottom of the page, thus removing the “blue links” (they still appear underlined when you move the cursor over them) from our now focused reading.

I’m thinking Readability should appear as a Toolbar marklet on all out students’ accounts so that they can reap the benefits of some uninterrupted online concentration.
