DC again

We make it down to Washington D.C about every 10 years, in time for our kids to be ripe for the trip. For me, it remains a humbling experience; not just because it is the seat of government, but as the archive of our collective achievements as individuals.

The scope of these achievements is mirrored in the scale of the buildings, landscapes, and vistas framed by the city, but they are also made our own by the intimate niches carved out at every turn. Hence, we are dutifully jaw-dropped by the out-sized gape of a Saturn V rocket, but we are also embraced by the texture and touch of palm-sized airmen in a WWII relief.

That balance of "shock and awe" and "up-close and personal" is probably what draws us back every decade. That, and being part of it all.
