There is chromed cold edge to the idea of technology; how it serves speed and change and immediacy. Myself, I don't go a day without it, despite its dispassionate aloofness.
Then again, I am reminded of its warm side; like today.
A former colleague has passed away. There among the list of archived files on my computer and there amid the older deeper links of our school web site are QuickTime movies (some small and fuzzy, some brief and obscure) of him at work and at play with students. He is moving and speaking. He is wearing his signature sweaters. His students are amazingly engaged and inspired.
It is all digital, but it is all him. And I am warmed by it.
