Scaling the Pacific

I'm working with an 8th grade science class on some "Scideas" projects. This is our first one. We scaled the Pacific Ocean to our library floor so that we could better compare the areas of the U.S., Chenango County, and the World War II battleground of Iwo Jima to it.

Most startling to us all was the proportional average depth of the Pacific in our model; less than the thickness of a linoleum floor tile! We're living on a tissue-thin world.
