My Wednesday

This morning I began by adding Google Documents Form to my library web page: a suggestions "box" for new titles. They will appear on a spreadsheet on my documents page. Neat.

I touched based with a sixth grade teacher about using some of her students' house-maps as part of a library display on mapping/orienteering. We'll be displaying "stick maps" from Oceania as created by our Applied Physics class also.

Emailed the faculty to introduce the library's current "A Prize" contest: The Legacy of Greatness, based on the contributions of Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln (birthday boys from February 12, 1809).

Recognized a substitute teacher for exemplary work during a colleagues medical leave. Made a certificate, rounded up the principal for the presentation, took pictures, made posters for the teachers lounge and the web site.

Hung a nifty little reference book from a "quick-release lanyard" in our reference section so that hangs in front of the shelves. Had fun promoting its functionality (or not) with several library patrons!

Created and posted photo/explanation of two students working with me who are interested in making a Google SketchUp model of our nearby school footbridge. made copies for them to take home.

Photographed our Senior of the Month, created the lobby graphic, and forwarded the photo to our newsletter editor.

Made a captioned graphic of our gym based on research and measurements by two Environmental Science students to illustrate the volume of 1,000,000 gallons of water.

Photographed the elementary school Reading Recognition students vs. teachers volleyball game. Forward photos to district's shared photo folder.

Have been bookmarking sites today using WebNotes rather than my del.icio.us account. I can highlight/save text, write a "sticky note," and publish a summary of each bookmarked folder. Looks like it might be a good librarian tool.
