The librarian presents

The student teacher for our U.S. History course has been doing a great job of bringing me on board with his coursework. Today I supplemented his instruction about the rise of labor unions in the tumultuous late 18oo's with a brief survey and synopsis of books dealing with industrialization, child labor, and the gap between haves and have nots.

These are the books that I quoted, read from, and shared:

Power Makers by Maury Klein
The Brooklyn Bridge by David G. McCullough
Kids at Work: Lewis Hine and the crusade against child labor by Russell Freedman
The Johnstown Flood by David G. McCullough
Triangle: the fire that changed America by Dave Von Drehle
