I have been coming across some articles recently that offer some good cross-curriculum discussion points between history and science.
The first deals with a plan to clone a dozen historic trees from the New York City area for the purpose of planting the clones (a million trees!) amid the urban landscape there. The news article touches on particular trees and species (one that George Washington walked under) as well as the applied science need to carry out the process.
Similarly, an article in the January 12-18 NewScientist magazine recounts the Nazi efforts as "biopirates" in WWII to strategically steal the Russian's enormous archive of plants and seeds (over 250,000 samples) from research stations located in the Ukraine in order to secure a self-sufficient food supply for their future.
Both of these articles provide strong comparisons to current issues and concerns as well as being fine examples of the intertwined nature of these two courses of study.
