Reading for Provocation

Backtracking here a bit to metacognate (sp?) over these snippets in my blog – asking what is it that snags my interest enough to include it as "worthy" of passing along?

Much of my reading for the library is trolling – scanning the thirty or so newspapers and magazines that we subscribe to – waiting for, well, provocation; some burr of contention or intersection of ideas that must rest at the edge of my knowing and so begs a question or a path to resolution that I/we might explore. It's the idea, I guess, of being much more interested in what I don't know than what I do.

That leads me to suggest that we urge our students to read for provocations – looking for those red-flags of interest, wonder, epiphany, urgency, antagonism that beg sharing, questioning, pursuit – recognizing and welcoming those moments when we are incited to learn. share, ask.
